PHI – Where Mathematics Meets Elegance
The myth of the Golden Ratio – the perfect harmonic equation – has captivated minds for centuries. It echoes through arithmetic and geometry, shapes the cosmos in astronomy, defines masterpieces in art and music, and is mirrored in the very fabric of Mother Nature.
This timeless concept became the inspiration for Moulham Obid’s debut collection, named after the mathematical symbol PHI. Drawing upon the aesthetic and philosophical depth of the golden section, Obid translated its proportions into fashion – and the results were nothing short of remarkable.
His groundbreaking vision earned him the Austrian Fashion Talent Award 2017, presented by DIVA magazine.
Craftsmanship, Creativity, and Couture
Obid’s creations are known for their imagination, elegance, and exquisite materials. One standout piece – a spectacular coat crafted from over 60 meters of tulle – captured the attention of both the public and the press. Its impact was so strong, it was even featured in an online campaign by McDonald’s, showcasing the versatility and reach of high fashion when fused with artistic vision.
The true challenge for the young designer, however, lay in applying the Sectio Aurea (Golden Section) to garment construction – not only as a visual guideline but as a structural principle. The cuts, proportions, and flow of each piece were masterfully executed, reflecting his deep understanding of design theory and aesthetics.
A Bachelor of Arts graduate from the prestigious Fashion College on Herbststrasse, Moulham Obid was trained in the strict traditions of haute couture. There, he mastered the art of precise tailoring, a discipline he continues to honour by crafting each collection by hand – from the first stitch to the final flourish.
